Sheema Kermani in the San Francisco Bay Area
Sunday night Sheema Kermani and her troupe of nine artists from Pakistan gave their thirteenth and final performance in their current tour of the US. An hour long play 'Maen Jioun Gi Sar Uttha kar’ (written by Anwer Jafri; directed by Sheema Kermani and Anwer Jafri) was followed by a dance routine choreographing Faiz’s poem ‘Intisab’ and another dance depicting a tarana by Ameer Khusro. The pro bono performance by the artists benefitted the Koohi Goth Hospital, a charity health care facility for women run by Dr. Shershah Syed and his team.
Tonight’s performance was about shattering the walls prosperity builds around you—walls that make you oblivious to the everyday problems the majority of Pakistan faces. The women of Pakistan are that majority and Sheema Kermani as their advocate is out there to poke holes in the cocoons many choose to live in.
