Remembering Asim Osmani (Asim Inam Osmani)

Between 1995 and 1997, I did some design work on construction projects being managed by Osmani & Company in Karachi.  Osmani & Company, a prominent consulting engineering firm was established in the 1960s by Inam Ahmed Osmani.  Osmani & Company mostly worked for the armed forces and especially on the Pakistan Navy projects. I got a seat at the table because I knew Atif Inam Osmani, Inam Ahmed Osmani’s son, from my Iowa State University days.  Inam Osmani’s other two sons, Asim and Arif Osmani also worked at the Osmani & Co.   I did not get to know Asim Osmani very well, but I had a few brief interactions with him when I designed storm water drain systems for the projects Osmani & Company handled.  Then there is a gap of twenty five years: from 1997 to 2022.  Today, while talking to my friend and an eminent consulting engineer in Pakistan, Shahid Zia, I found out Asim Inam Osmani recently passed away.  The news shocked me!  Inam Ahmed Osmani, the father, passed away on April 29, 2019, and just three years later, the oldest son is gone!

Asim Osmani went to Habib Public School in Karachi and completed his 12th grade from Abbottabad Public School.  At the NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, he pursued Civil Engineering and graduated in 1987.  He earned a master’s degree from Cornell University in 1989.  After completing his studies at Cornell, he moved back to Pakistan and started working with his father.  According to the note below, Asim Inam Osmani died in Toronto, Canada on April 15, leaving behind his wife Anita Osmani and three children Ammar, Arisha, and Anaya Asim Osmani.
