Pine trees can grow in Karachi
When you think of pine, you normally think of high elevations (3000 ft above sea level or higher) and/or high latitudes (35 degrees North/South latitude or higher). Karachi lies just above the Tropic of Cancer and most of the city is 10 to 100 ft above sea level. But pine trees can grow and thrive in Karachi. I found these two pine trees near the State Life Building at PIDC.

Visiting the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK), Topi
The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology is about 90 Km from Islamabad. When you get off at the Ghazi exit of the M-1 motorway (Islamabad-Peshawar highway), you still have to go about 30 Km; that part of the drive is a challenge because the road is under construction or just plain full of potholes at places.
Located close to the Tarbela Dam, the University is an enclave of serenity in a surrounding atmosphere of pure chaos.
A visit to the Taxila ruins
The Taxila archaeological site is spread over a vast area. One day, when a saner administration will take control of the ruins, the human population will be removed from the area, a boundary wall will be constructed around the ancient city, pathways will be developed, and visitors will be able to walk from one Taxila attraction to another. That not being the case right now, Taxila visitors drive to various stupas and unearthed parts of the city.
By the time we reached Taxila, the museum, was closing. We visited the ruins at Sirkap and Dharmarajika. Here are a few photos.
